As global supply chains shift toward sustainability, GPI is taking proactive steps with our packaging materials.
Since 2021, we've launched a structured green packaging transformation program to reduce the use of EPE (Expanded Polyethylene), a material that poses a significant environmental burden, and gradually replace it with more eco-friendly alternatives like molded pulp.
Cutting Down EPE Packaging Material
EPE offers excellent cushioning, but it is difficult to recycle and degrades extremely slowly, making it a top priority for elimination.
Thanks to internal design innovations and packaging optimization, all new products have been launched with eco-friendly packaging materials. In addition, we have replaced the EPE of the existing products with rapid progress:
- 2022 to 2023: EPE usage was reduced by more than 35%, from 17,170 units to 11,046 units.
- 2024 so far: EPE use remains well-controlled with 3% of models at 12,461 units, staying below our internal limit and maintaining a downward trend.
At the Same Time: Pulp Packaging Surged
While reducing harmful materials, we've also increased the use of molded pulp—a recyclable and biodegradable packaging alternative. Our data tells a clear story of commitment and growth:
- From 80% of models in 2021 to 96% of models in 2024, molded pulp usage has seen strong growth, with consistent year-over-year growth.
- Today, more and more of our products are shipped using green packaging.
At GPI, sustainability is more than a short-term project, it’s a long-term transformation. Packaging is just the beginning. We are committed to building a more sustainable future together with our customers and partners.
